Team Drunk Poncho | Hogeye Marathon Relay

We asked Brandon a few questions that will help you get to know him better as a runner and as a #HogeyeHopeful. Thanks for chatting with us, Brandon!

Age: 39
Hometown: Fayetteville, AR
Profession: Program Chair – Blue Cliff College

When did you start running?
1985. I ran one mile for the standard register corporate relay team.

WHY did you start running?
To fill a spot on the corporate team for the Hogeye Marathon.

Where do you prefer to run? Do you have a favorite route?
Outside. I love to run lake Fayetteville Trail.

What was your “I’M A RUNNER!” moment?
Running a 5k in 19:18sec. I paced a female college track star and stayed with her the whole 5k!

Have you run the Hogeye before, or will 2015 be your first Hogeye?
I’ve run the Hogeye  about 10 times.

If you could go back and give yourself a piece of advice as a beginner, what would it be?
Take it more seriously!

What has running taught you about yourself?
I can still accomplish athletic goals at almost 40.

Do you run solo or with a group?
Both. I prefer trail running solo and meeting up for a beer after.

What motivates you in running? Medals? PRs? Fitness?
Accomplishing distance goals and PRs in time while comparing my time against others my age.

Do you have any racing superstitions or traditions?
Sushi and beer after a race.

Do you have a running motto or mantra or favorite quote?
Cup up – ears out.

Why do you run the Hogeye? What makes it special?
The Hogeye is just one of the best marathons around. Great scenery, teamwork, incredible support and encouragement from all runners and spectators.

Thanks for sharing your story, Brandon! We can’t wait to see you and Team Drunk Poncho again this year!
